Our colleagues Utku Sivacilar and Wouter Lubbers will be in Bari, presenting our accepted paper and hosting a workshop.

The paper, “Ontology-Based Enterprise Knowledge Management,” is joint work with the global engineering firm Arcadis. It tackles a problem many large organizations recognize: a vast amount of knowledge locked inside documents, scattered across regions and disciplines, and hard to reuse. Generic large language models promise a way in, but they struggle with technical content and return too many irrelevant or hallucinated results to be trusted. The paper sets out a more structured approach: define meaning first with a federated set of ontologies, extract information into an enterprise knowledge graph, and then unlock it through a graphRAG solution that keeps answers grounded and traceable to their source. Semmtech’s Laces application is used for ontology development and maintenance throughout. It is a concrete demonstration of the difference an ontology-based foundation makes, reducing hallucinations while keeping answers verifiable.
