About this presentation

The Dutch water sector faces a huge renewal challenge: a large stock of locks, weirs, pumping stations, and other structures is reaching the end of its lifespan and needs to be renovated or replaced, often at the same time and under real budget and capacity pressure. Getting that work done efficiently depends on having reliable, consistent, and reusable information about the assets involved.
At Waterinfodag 2026, our colleague Herman Hoekman gave a presentation on how an Object Type Library (OTL) can help. An OTL provides a standardized, structured way to define what you know about your assets, so that information can be captured once and reused across projects rather than rebuilt every time. In this talk, Herman explains how putting that foundation in place can accelerate the renewal challenge, making asset data a driver of progress instead of a bottleneck.

Who it is for

Professionals in the water sector and beyond who deal with asset information: asset and data managers at water authorities, along with contractors, engineering firms, and advisors working on the renewal and management of water infrastructure.
