The Power of an Interoperable Data Ecosystem for BIM Modellers
As a BIM modeller, you know that the construction and infrastructure sector is rapidly digitalizing, and data-driven working is essential for success. Data is at the heart of every project, but its real value only emerges when it can flow seamlessly between systems, teams, and organizations. An open and interoperable data ecosystem is therefore indispensable.
With Semmtech’s solutions, you can adopt a modular, open, and scalable approach to smartly manage, use, and share valuable data within your BIM environment.
From OTL to international openBIM standards
More and more organizations are developing their own Object Type Library (OTL) to consistently describe the terminology and aspects of their assets. For you as a BIM modeller, such an OTL provides a rich source of semantic information, but its true potential is only unlocked when this information is made available in international openBIM standards.
This is where our open-source tools onto2bsdd and onto2ids come in:
- Onto2bsdd
This open-source tool automatically transforms your OTL into the buildingSMART Data Dictionary (bSDD) format. The bSDD is the international platform for publishing and consolidating ontologies. By making your data available in bSDD, your terminology and classifications become directly usable in a wide range of BIM software and plugins that support bSDD. The result: better communication and improved data quality.
- Onto2ids
This tool converts your OTL into Information Delivery Specification (IDS) files. IDS, developed by buildingSMART International (bSI), allows you to define information requirements in a structured and computer-interpretable way. This enables you to automatically verify whether IFC models comply with the requirements set out in your projects.
Why now?
The international BIM community, led by buildingSMART, is strongly driving the adoption of openBIM workflows. More and more clients request standards such as IDS and bSDD in their tenders and projects. By adopting them today, you ensure that your work meets current requirements and is future-proof.
Building openBIM together
With our services and open-source products (such as Linked Data Viewers, Validators, and Transformers), we support you every step of the way: from OTL modelling to interoperable applications. As a BIM modeller, this allows you to establish the foundation for:
- data-driven collaboration;
- higher quality in your BIM models;
- significantly reduced failure costs across the entire value chain.
Do you want to leverage your OTL effectively and prepare your BIM workflows for the future? Let’s work together to make your data ecosystem open and interoperable.
