What is Semantic Modeling?

Semantic modeling is the art of describing meaning in a way that is interpretable for both people and computers. Semantic Modeling is used for designing information models, which in turn are used as blueprints for software development and data exchange.

What is best about semantic models, compared to old-school information models, is the fact that a semantic model is database agnostic. A semantic model only describes the meaning of the data, not the way software needs to structure its storage.
