What is integration?

Extraction, Transformation and Load (ETL) is the field of retrieving data from multiple sources, changing its ‘languages’ into a singular form and using combined data in applications other than where it came from.

Quality of data is key when making decisions, but most organizations use multiple applications from multiple software vendors. We use the field of ETL to integrate those IT landscapes. Nowadays, this field is extended to the use of Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) and Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) platforms offering data profiling, data quality, and metadata capabilities.
